What it Takes to Build a Career in One Health

Description: Learn about education, employment, and workforce development in the One Health arena. Dr. Eri Togami, One Health fellow at the One Health Institute at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, will share findings from research conducted by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's One Health Action Collaborative on core competencies in One Health education. She also will discuss results from a global survey of more than 800 students, graduates, workers, and employers in the field of One Health.

  • How current workers find their positions, and platforms that employers use to find potential candidates
  • Ongoing education and workforce development in the One Health field

Dr. Eri Togami is a One Health fellow at the One Health Institute, School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis, where she addresses global health challenges at the animal, human, and environmental interface. Her current work focuses on PREDICT, a viral emergence early warning project that is part of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Emerging Pandemic Threats Program. She also is involved with the Global Virome Project, which aims to characterize the majority of the earth’s zoonotic viruses. Dr. Togami serves as subcommittee member and staff of the U.S. National Academies’ One Health Action Collaborative. 

Originally from Tokyo, Dr. Togami studied veterinary medicine at Nippon Veterinary and Life Science University in Japan, and earned her Master of Public Health in infectious disease epidemiology from Yale School of Public Health. She worked as an intern at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Fiji and later as a consultant at WHO Western Pacific Regional Office in the Philippines, supporting emerging infectious disease surveillance and outbreak response in the Asia and Pacific region.
