You’ll learn how the field has evolved from traditional lectures to hands-on trainings in clinics and skills labs. You’ll also explore the many roles and opportunities in academic institutions for veterinary professionals from various backgrounds.

Dr. Caroline Cantner has been the director for professional development at the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) since 2020. Previously, she was assistant director for student initiatives at the AVMA, where she supported veterinary colleges in the western region, managed a student grant for all 37 Student AVMA chapters, and supported AVMA faculty members through various professional development programs, including AVMA’s Veterinary Educator Professional Development Grant. She has spoken on a range of professional skills topics at veterinary schools, conferences, and webinars.
Before transitioning to a career in veterinary medicine, Dr. Cantner was involved in public service. She earned her bachelor’s degree in government from Dartmouth College, interned with the U.S. House Committee on Education and Workforce, served as an AmeriCorps member, and worked for a Pennsylvania state senator. She then earned her VMD from the University of Pennsylvania and worked in small animal general practice. A second-generation veterinarian, she also has a background and interest in practice management.
Dr. Michelle Wisecup is the spectrum of care clinical educator and medical director at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She is a progressive leader in the veterinary field and has experience in private practice, corporate management, and higher education. She is passionate about developing future leaders, enhancing the spectrum of care, and driving operational efficiencies, including through the use of artificial intelligence and case-based reasoning.
