AVMA Tech Talk: Boosting productivity

Explore how to harness technology to boost productivity and efficiency in your hospital or practice. In this 30-minute episode, veterinary technologist and practice manager Leslie Boudreau discusses how her hospital used the Veterinary Hospital Management Association’s organizational design toolkit to identify ways of increasing productivity, and then used technology to accomplish this goal.

Dr. Christopher Doherty is assistant director for strategic business research and outreach in the Veterinary Economics Division at the AVMA. In this role he analyzes data about new and early-career veterinarians, and translates research into tools, resources, and actionable items that veterinarians can utilize and implement in their practices and careers. He earned his veterinary degree from the Ontario Veterinary College, and his master’s degree in business administration from McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business. He also is a chartered business valuator. 


Leslie Boudreau is a practice manager at Animal Hospital of Huntington Beach, a nine-veterinarian, AAHA-accredited, small animal and exotic general practice with over 60 employees. She has been a veterinary technologist and practice manager in Southern California for over 30 years. She earned her degree in veterinary technology-hospital management from St. Petersburg College in Florida. She also is a certified veterinary practice manager (CVPM) and holds several human resources certifications, including senior professional in human resources. As of 2024 she is in the process of earning a master’s degree in human resources management.  

Boudreau is a founding member of the Orange County Veterinary Hospital Manager’s Group. She has served as president of the California Registered Veterinary Technician’s Association and as vice president of the Veterinary Hospital Manager’s Association. She lectures locally and nationally on a wide range of veterinary topics, including human resources, veterinary technician utilization, and staff training.
